A Legacy Youth & McCabe Youth Event
February 23rd-24th, 2024
McCabe Youth will need to register with Legacy to attend this event by Wednesday, February 21st: Registration
What is the 30 Hour Famine? World Vision provides resources for youth to learn about hunger, raise funds to support communities, and allow our youth to experience a glimpse of the reality of hunger. This may seem like a challenging event but it is one that will bring insight and perspective.
Is fasting for 30 hours safe? For most people, going without food for 30 hours is perfectly safe. There are a few exceptions – see the consent form. The Famine is a juice fast, meaning we will have lots of water and fruit juice throughout the 30 hours. If you have any concerns about fasting, check with your child’s doctor. Your child can attend the event even if they cannot fast for the 30 hours, just let us know. A modified fast is available where students get small, simple food at meal times—so they stay a bit hungry but do get sufficient nutrition. We can figure out a plan together that works best for your student.
What’s the schedule? Fasting begins after lunch on Friday, February 23th. Students should eat a healthy lunch at school. Don’t try to over-eat in preparation. Just eat a regular meal for lunch that day. We will start the event at Legacy church on Friday @ 6:00 pm. Families can choose if their student will stay overnight at Legacy, or go home Friday at 10PM and return Sat at 9AM. We’re together all-day Saturday, until we break our fast with a meal Saturday evening. Pick up at 6:30 pm. If your child is unable to stay for the entire event, he/she is still able to attend. Please make arrangements with your group leader.
